The purchase of a spa will cost at least $ 3,000 and probably much more. Then come heating bills. But you can build a solar hot tub for less than $ 400, not heating costs at all. Free!

If you can mount the solar collector at least one foot below the tub to permit thermo-siphon, you should be able to avoid mounting a pump. If this is not possible, you'll need a pump rated at 150 GPH installed at the exit of the bathtub.

Pipe runs should be as short as possible and avoid sharp turns. Installation of an in-line near the outlet of the water will avoid bathing the task of cleaning the tub from time to time. Finally, you must adjust valves inlet and outlet flow control as well as a safety valve to relieve excess pressure in the system.
Once you have tested the tank solar hot to isolate the leak as much as possible – all piping, exterior walls of the tub, and the tank cover (essential for reducing heat loss at night).
Any structure you decide to build around the tank will be for aesthetic or practical reasons such as access, since the bath is designed to hold its contents without outside help.
The solar collector must be positioned correctly. In northern latitudes it up-facing south, or within 10 degrees, and a slope between 15 and 30 degrees horizontally. Also you must tilt slightly the length of solar collectors to help the upward flow of water in the collector pipes.
What time do you expect to take to the solar heating the spa water? Depending on where you live it could take up to two days to reach an area of 110 degrees the first ease times. Once there, however, you find your main problem will be cooling the water rather than heating!
